EXT. FALLENWOOD CASTLE – MORNING

Surrounded by lush green pine forests and gray, snow-tipped mountains, FALLENWOOD CASTLE sits comfortably in a valley alongside a crystal clear winding river. Its four towers point to the north, east, south, and west. The castle stands several stories high and stretches almost a quarter of a mile wide.

Seated on the grassy field in front of the castle is a young couple, happily in love. They are both college-aged.

Three friends, also in their early 20’s, carry leather-bound books and ancient papyrus scrolls as they walk together toward the main castle gate.

Other students join them at the entrance.

A small wooden sign, so aged that almost all of the original paint has since peeled off, states that this place is the “UNIVERSITY OF MAGIC AND MYSTICISM”.

INT. CASTLE LOBBY

Several dozen students of all walks of life gather and mingle in the main castle lobby, just beyond the front gate.

Ahead are the GRAND STAIRS, leading up to the second floor. The university HEADMASTER stands atop, waiting for the gathered freshmen to give him their attention.

The headmaster is as old as time itself, with a gray beard that dangles all the way to the floor. He wears a purple and black robe with a golden sash.

Finally, he CLEARS HIS THROAT.

The gathered students below take notice. As they quiet down, he speaks.

HEADMASTER
Welcome freshmen to your new
university. Here you will be taught
the sacred and mysterious ways of
magic, divination, potions,
mysticism, and supernatural law.
(pause)
You will be assigned a class
schedule based on your individual
talents, interests, and aptitudes–

ALAN runs into the lobby, short on breath. He’s very late. The 20-year-old has brown hair, brown eyes, and is a very good-looking guy.

The headmaster notices, makes eye contact, and then continues.

HEADMASTER (CONT’D)
–upon which are the foundation of
your career at this university. The
work will be challenging and the
studies demanding. Tardiness will
not be tolerated from this moment
forward. Your instructors and I
hold you all to very high standards
and expect nothing less than your
absolute best.

ALAN
(whispering to a nearby student)
My alarm didn’t go off. My roommate
reset it last night!

The other student does her best to ignore him and pay attention to the headmaster.

HEADMASTER
Now, your advisors have your class
schedules and first year books.
They are organized alphabetically
along the walls. Go to them now and
report to class by the end of the
hour.

Without another word, the headmaster makes a grand gesture with his hands and arms, and suddenly disappears in a poof of smoke.

ALAN peers through the crowd, narrowly spotting the advisors standing along the walls. A small red banner with gold letters hangs above each, signifying the last initials of the students they cover. Alan finally finds his advisor and works his way through the chaos of the other students.

He’s next in line.

ALAN’S ADVISOR
Next.

Alan steps forward.

ALAN
Alan McKinnley.

The advisor shuffles through several folders. He finds the right one.

ALAN’S ADVISOR
Here we are. Inside you’ll find
your schedule, a map of the castle,
university rules and expectations,
grading policy, and meal plan
ticket.

ALAN
Thank you.

He eagerly opens it up.

ALAN’S ADVISOR
Next.

Alan wanders away, not paying attention where he’s going, reading over his schedule and orienting himself with the castle map.

His roommate, TORY, walks up to Alan. Tory is a few years older than Alan, with lightly spiked dark hair and slightly less appealing looks. He carries his own folder already.

TORY
Alan, there you are man!

ALAN
(looks up)
Tory! That wasn’t funny man. I
almost overslept!

TORY
(laughing about it)
You were snoring so loudly, I
didn’t want to wake you.

ALAN
What? I don’t snore.

TORY
What classes you got?

ALAN
Intro to Philosophy, Mysticism 101,
Foundations in Spellcasting, and–

TORY
(interrupting)
Oh! I’m in Foundations of
Spellcasting too!

ALAN
(not thrilled)
Great.

TORY
It’ll be fun man. We can study
together and stuff. What are
roommates for?

ALAN
My philosophy class is about to
begin. I better get going.

TORY
Okay man! See you later!

INT. THE LIBRARY – DAY

Eight students, including ALAN, sit around a circle in wooden chairs. They are at the center of the library, which hosts thousands of books on every subject imaginable. A nearby stain glass window lets in multicolored light.

The teacher is a quirky lady with frizzy hair, oversized glasses, and a plain, flowy dress. Her name is MISS FLORA.

MISS FLORA
Philosophy is the love of wisdom.

Alan notices a PRETTY GIRL across the circle. She has long blonde hair, a cute round face, full breasts, perfect thighs, and an overall rocking body. Suddenly Alan can’t pay attention to anything else.

Miss Flora’s voice, and all other sounds, fade completely out.

The PRETTY GIRL notices Alan staring. He quickly looks away, but it’s too late — he’s been caught. But a friendly smile warms the girl’s face.
