Donald sat in the interrogation room across from Agent Jones.
“Amazing,” he said, staring at Donald’s face. “You look just like her!”
“Sure. Now, can we finish this so I can get this shit off my face?”
“Did you retrieve the package?”
“I did,” Donald said, pushing his hair behind his ear in a most feminine way. “The package you sent me to retrieve is on this jump drive.” Donald pulled a small object out of his pocket and pushed it across the table to Agent Jones.
“And you did nothing but copy the information onto this jump drive?”
“Yes, per your detailed instructions,” Donald replied sarcastically.
“Now am I done?”
“There was nothing…suspicious…on your screen as you logged in?”
“What do you mean?”
“Something that might not have looked right?”
Donald stopped and stared at the agent. He had seen that “wake up” message on the computer screen and earlier on his phone, plus the dream he had before that. But it was probably just some prank. A fellow hacker trying to get his attention or something. Or a computer virus. Or maybe he was hallucinating. Either way, he didn’t feel it was worth mentioning to the agent.
“Nope, nothing suspicious…” he lied.
“Good…” the agent mused.
“So, I’m done? I can get this shit off?”
“You don’t approve of your new look?” Agent Jones asked, raising an eyebrow.
“No…” Donald was about to describe his disguise in not-so-complimentary terms, explaining how sick and immoral it was for a man to want to appear as a woman. But instead, Donald found himself saying something completely unexpected. “Actually… it’s complicated. I’m liking the hair. Or at least, I like having hair again. And I don’t mind looking this way. Really. It’s just that it looks odd having the head of a woman but nothing else. I’ve already caught a few stray glances as people try to figure out what I am.”
Did he really just say that out loud?
“People are starting to wonder, huh?” Agent Jones replied. “Well then. We must do something about that.”
Agent Jones pushed across the table another gift bag. “In here you will find additional pieces for your disguise.”
“Additional pieces?” Donald remarked. “You mean I’m going to continue looking like this?”
“Yes you are. But I will note your concern.”
“I thought you just needed my technical skills for this one mission.”
“We did. But there’s more. That a problem?”
“Don’t get me wrong. I like how I look. Like I said, it’s just…”
“I understand,” Agent Jones interrupted. “Your next job will take you into the actual building that Elizabeth works in. You are to gain access to her computer while she’s at lunch, install the bugs provided for you on the jump drive in the bag, and leave.”
“Why must I continue to dress up? Couldn’t I go in another disguise?”
“No other disguise would work right. You have to pass as her. Don’t worry. Your coat will cover up everything but your feet and your hands. Take the trench coat behind you. It should conceal the rest of your body from the cameras.”
Donald looked behind him and saw a bright pink coat draped over his seat. That’s strange, he thought. I didn’t see that there when I walked in.
